Recently, research on ethics consult data and tracking has grown, and more clinical ethics services have implemented or expanded ethics data tracking systems. Guiding questions for this growth should center around tracking meaningful data and making good use of this data. This presentation will describe a project that covered development, implementation, use, and growth of a data tracking system at a community hospital. The discussion of development and implementation will have a special emphasis on how we integrated research and best practice into our current system to match up with our resources and meet our specific needs. The discussion of the use of the data tracking system will include an overview of the ways in which we used data for quality improvement and education and examples of the variety of ways we disseminated ethics data information to hospital staff. Our overarching goals for data use were quality improvement, education, and improving services for staff, patients, and families. The presentation will also foster discussion of future plans for ongoing growth and improvement of this project.
