Rowan Kim is a prospective medical student who graduated from Columbia University in 2022 with an MSc in Bioethics. Kim pursued their undergraduate studies at the University of Edinburgh, graduating with a Master of Arts with Honours in English and Scottish Literature in 2017, before completing Columbia University's post-baccalaureate premedical program in 2020. They are the author of the comic book, "When Lightning Strikes" (2021), written in collaboration with Next Step Fund, Inc.'s STRIVE program for teenagers with sickle cell disease; and "Mainstream Media’s Obsession with Africa: Reflecting on 'TIA' during the COVID-19 Pandemic" (Voices in Bioethics, 2021), a critique of global media's portrayal of epidemics in the African continent written through the lens of
Kim's own experiences growing up in Sub-Saharan African countries. Their research interests include best practices in global healthcare and clinical research; LGBTQIA+ affirming healthcare policy; the history and taxonomy of intersex variations; and minority narratives in popular and medical literature.
