Dr. Steven J. Squires, PhD, MA, MEd leads system ethics programs for CHRISTUS Health as the Vice President for Ethics. His responsibilities include supporting ethics consultation teams and ethics committees, serving as a consultant, training consultants and processes, providing ethics education, and improving processes. Prior to his current role, Dr. Squires was at Mercy Health, now Bon Secours Mercy Health (BSMH), for eight years total. At BSMH, he began as Director of Ethics for the Mercy Health – Cincinnati and East Market Mission Leader for two Cincinnati hospitals and finished as Vice President of Mission and Ethics for Mercy Health and Vice President of Ethics for the BSMH system. Steven began his ethics career serving for five years as Director of Ethics at Trinity Health. Dr. Squires has authored many, published articles – including Squires, S. and P. Anderson (2018). Chaplains, Pope Francis and the Healing Encounter. Health Progress, 99(3) – and has been invited to speak at national conferences – including Gremmels, B., M. Leonardi, B. Sujdak-Mackiewicz, K. Pavic-Zabinski, and S. Squires. (2016). Presentation. American Society for Bioethics + Humanities (ASBH) 18th Annual Meeting, Washington, D.C., October. The Catholic Health Association named Dr. Squires a “Tomorrow’s Leader” in 2016. He attended the 2017 Mercy Health Leadership Academy and was the 2016-2020 chair of the board for Healthy Moms & Babes, an organization dedicated to maternal-child wellbeing. He received a B.S. in Biology with concentrations in theology and philosophy at Loyola University Chicago. His graduate degrees include a M.Ed. in College Student Personnel Administration from Loyola University Chicago, M.A. in Biomedical Ethics and Health Care Policy from Loyola University Chicago, and a Ph.D. in Healthcare Ethics from Duquesne University.
